Oregon lawmakers introduce bill to lower voter age to 16

Lawmakers in Oregon announced a measure on Monday to lower the state’s voting age from 18 to 16. Oregon state Sen. Shemia Fagan said teenagers are ’begging us to take action to protect their future’. If the measure passes in Oregon, it would be become the first state in the nation to lower the statewide voting age to 16.

Because 16 year olds are so mature and informed? We’re talking about America not video games.

So first they make schools left wing indoctrination machines, then they allow the kids who attend them to vote, no agenda to be seen here!

So they think that 16 year olds are not mature enough to drink, smoke, own a gun, serve in the military or make the majority of decisions about finances alone, but they are mature enough to have a say in how the government is run.... Makes perfect sense

Sixteen year olds are idiots. Hell, most eighteen year olds are. I think we should raise the voting age to twenty two and have that be the age when everything applies. Gun ownership, military service, voting, drinking. At least by that age people will have, hopefully, a more mature level of thinking.

No. No no no no. No.No......no If you are not legally an adult you should not be making decisions about the country and laws. They cant drink, smoke or join the military but oh yeah they can make important decisions about our laws, country, and political representatives. Stupid.

"Too many conservatives are still in office...and we're sick of waiting for this generation to die. So, we'll get to the next generation earlier. After all...it's already illegal for their parents to parent. This is the natural next step."

Just personal opinion it should have been left at 21. I realize it when it was changed people where more mature but nowadays people savor their youth longer so it needs to be changed back. heck you cannot rent a car till 25

wasnt the reason for the voting age to be 18 because they could also be drafted? so if they decide to change to 16, would they draft 16 yr olds?

Considering your brain isn’t fully formed until your mid 20s I’m not sure they should be making choices that effect adults.

Wow, talk about missing the point. The kids are getting blown away at school. The NRA lobbyist are so firmly entrenched in the halls of Congress, nothing gets done to protect the students. Everyone has taken money from the NRA. It's nothing short of bribery. Pay to play. With the 16 year olds having a vote, the politicians will have to listen to them. Unlike now, where all they get is those "Thoughts and Prayers.

Just another way for state democrats in Oregon to secure a greater stranglehold over the state.
