UK regulator raises big objections to Sainsbury’s-Asda deal

UK’s competition regulator has dealt a fatal blow to Sainsbury’s planned $9.5 billion takeover of Walmart’s Asda, saying it was unlikely the companies would be able to address its concerns. Sainsbury’s, Britain’s second-biggest supermarket group, and number three Asda agreed the deal last April. The regulator said the deal could lead to a worse experience for in-store and online shoppers.
