Oakland teachers to start strike Thursday

Teachers in Oakland, California, plan to walk off the job Thursday in the latest strike nationwide over classroom conditions and pay. The walkout would affect 36,000 students at 86 schools. The district said schools will remain open with substitute teachers and non-union employees. Teachers are seeking smaller class sizes, more counselors and full-time nurses, and a 12 percent raise.

"substitute teachers and non union employees." The kids might actually learn something while the union is having its temper tantrum.

Investing in our future means investing in our teachers. I hope this strike improves their lot.

California is ranked the lowest in education by a wide margin in the U.S. When teachers actually start teaching instead of pushing political and personal agendas then they can get paied more. Maybe.

Ever since the Supreme Court ruled the unions can't rob public employees of dues you don't want to pay these unions are striking everywhere to show they're still in control. Public sector unions should be outlawed, just as FDR reasoned, because they're organized against the public.

I dedicate this to Mark Twain who died too early to know this great economist. https://youtu.be/EJEP7G7C0As

Wow, where do they think the money will come from? Cali isn’t what it used to be lots of employers are leaving and people are having less kids. And to strike when you are supposed to be working, basically screws over the kids. But it will force lawmakers to give the teachers money the state doesn’t have.

If parents would teach their children morals and how to be decent, Then teacher wouldn't have to do it all. Teachers are basically babysitters. We will be homeschooling. My wife and I do not agree with common core or anything they teach kids now.
