Sanders refuses to call Maduro a ’dictator’; calls for supervised elections

Bernie Sanders on Monday refused to call Venezuela’s disputed President Nicolas Maduro a ’dictator’. Sanders acknowledged that the last election in Venezuela was undemocratic, but said ’there are still democratic operations taking place in that country’. He called for ’internationally supervised fair elections’ in the country.

Meanwhile his party has no qualms with calling their own president a dictator.

Wont call him a dictator because then he'd have to admit socialism is bad and doesn't work.

Just another reason I won't support Bernie, don't understand why our politicians shy away from calling a dictator a dictator, like Putin and Kim.

Bernie is navigating a field of land mines trying to get his message and policies out without saying something that will get him smeared into oblivion or knee-cap his position. With he would come out firmly against the US on Venezuela and call the coup what it is. Wish Bernie could do the right thing here, tho understand his walking on eggshells. This is why Tulsi is my first choice over Bernie... Either being vastly superior to literally any1 else running from the 2 major parties, by far.

Bernie is absolutely right in doing so. US Pres Jimmy Carter said that Venezuela's elections are superior to most. Considering that among the fact that Maduro DID WIN around 34 percent of all eligible voters I would say there is no possible way Maduro is even close to a "dictator". I believe Maduro's victory numbers are very similar to most US presidents winning numbers.

Use the same standard on America and Venezuelan elections. If Maduro is a dictator, prove it, and explain why Trump, isn't a dictator, but should've faced Bernie in the election if one of the two parties didn't rig primaries.

well hes a socialist so naturally he would defend a socialist dictator

If you look at the situation closely, critically, and with an understanding of why North America is interested in backing Guadio’s coup, you will realize that the whole thing is not much different from the imperialist projects in the Middle East (Iraq comes to mind). Because Sanders has looked at and comprehends the nuances of this, his assessment about Venezuela is correct. Notice that he is not saying that Maduro is a good president. Sanders does not support the corrupt neoliberal austerity that has taken place in Venezuela (highly reminiscent of Bush Jr.’s and Trump’s tax breaks for the wealthy), nor does he support the North American tariffs that crashed the Venezuelan economy. This is yet another smear attempt from the corporate media—pathetic.

But hes not a dictator lol burnie just can't say so or the news will smear him more then they all ready are, Madero was elected by a couple million people its the few thousands that didnt win that are mad and we are backing the minority cause they will give us their oil if they win, its the same tatic we used in Afghanistan and Iraq. however made to is still a pretty crappy leader but hes no hitler or Mussolini.
