US bars lithium-ion batteries from passenger aircraft cargo

On Wednesday, the US Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration issued new rules designed to protect air passengers from the potential dangers of lithium ion batteries. The interim rule disallows lithium ion cells and batteries in the cargo area of passenger airplanes.

This is probably a good thing. Lithium batreries as cargo probably need to be strictly ground shipment like other hazardous materials.
