TikTok hit with $5.7 million FTC fine for violating the privacy of children

The creators of TikTok are facing penalties for allegedly doing too little to respect kids’ privacy. The FTC fined TikTok $5.7 million as part of a settlement over reported COPPA violations in its lip-syncing video app. Regulators said that TikTok not only collected personal information from under-13 users without their parents’ consent, but made those profiles public.

FTC wants to protect Kids from the Tik-Tok, FTC should be protecting Tik-Tok from the Kids. Tik-Tok probably should of allowed a nuclear option for personal accounts though, these videos can create lethal doses of embarrassment.
