Italian man allegedly pocketed $650,000 despite absent from work for 15 years

Salvatore Scumace, a 67-year-old Italian hospital employee, has been accused of drawing roughly $648,000 in salary since 2015 despite never showing up for work, authorities said. Scumace was employed at the Pugliese Ciaccio hospital in the Calabrian city of Catanzaro. Italian media described him as ’king of absentees.’ Scumace faces charges of abuse of office, forgery and aggravated extortion.
