US vows Philippines aid against ’armed attack’ in South China Sea

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Friday vowed to defend the Philippines against ’armed attack’ in the disputed South China Sea. Pompeo was speaking in Manila after meeting with Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte. Pompeo said Beijing’s building of artificial islands in waters also claimed by Manila and other neighbors were potential threats to the two allies.

They already built bases in Spratlys. When the international court declared the Philippines the winner in the case, where were the allies? You can't expect that tiny island to go against China and her might. Even if the entire ASEAN coalition would band together, it's still not a force that could take down China.

The US was in the waters around the Philippines, they still are. This includes freedom of navigation operations near the Spratly Islands. What are you expecting the US to do.
