Bangladesh tells UN it will no longer take in Myanmar refugees

Bangladesh has told the UN Security Council on Thursday that it cannot take any more refugees from Myanmar. Over the last 18 months, reports indicate that more than 700,000 mainly Rohingya Muslims have poured across the border fleeing a military crackdown. Bangladesh also accused Myanmar of ’hollow promises and various obstructionist approaches’ during negotiations on returns.

The Rohingya are not the only minority facing ethnic conflicts with the Burmese; this is not a problem exclusive to Muslims. That being said, Bangladesh has been extremely strained by the influx of these refugees. The issue is Myanmar's unwillingness to grant the Rohingya any protections. And yes, the fear of Myanmar cozying to China too much is a big variable here
