Rand Paul to vote against Trump declaring national emergency

Sen. Rand Paul reportedly announced that he won’t support President Trump declaring a national emergency at the southern border. Paul said Saturday that he ’can’t vote to give extra Constitutional powers to the president’. Three other Republican senators have announced they’ll vote ’no’ to a national emergency declaration including, Sen. Susan Collins, Sen. Lisa Murkowski, and Sen. Thom Tillis.

I respect what Rand Paul says and the logic behind it but remember the Democrats only support you now to stop the President they don't like. They have no problems with the "extra-constitutional powers" when their the ones holding said power.

The declaration of an emergency on the border, if it stands, is opening another Pandora's box. While I support building a wall/barrier, I just look at this as severe overreach.

Congress got lazy and gave the President these power with little in the way of limitations. This is a good time for the Parties to work together to set some proper limits to that terrible legislation. It isn't going to happen because both Parties keep expanding government powers.

Why does anyone think Trump will care about public opinion. There is only one opinion he cares about... his.

As a constitutionalist, his heart is in the right place. Others are against the declaration of a state of emergency because they don't want to stop illegal immigration. He is against it in order to keep presidential power in check. Let us all remember, though... If you care about law, order, and doing things the right way, then you should also be intent on stopping illegal immigration, which spits in the face of all of that. Do let's not have the emergency, but still get the wall built.

Many congressmen on both sides of the aisle want to keep a porous border to provide poorly paid, illegal immigrants for increased representative seats in Congress and more profit for businesses. However, the average American citizen loses.

the only national emergency declaration in probably 3 decades that is actually a national emergency and not someone else's emergency.....
