Zuckerberg outlines new Facebook plan to protect people’s privacy

In a long blog post shared Wednesday, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that the company will increasingly focus its efforts on building a ’privacy-focused communications platform’. Zuckerberg spelt out that the company will encrypt conversations on more of its messaging services, including Messenger and Instagram. Using encryption, private messages would not be able to be seen by Facebook.

Facebook is and always has been built with a backdoor to advertisers, think tanks, intelligence agencies, etc. If you buy this talk about privacy, you'll never learn.

Facebook’s entire revenue stream is built on the back of big data, so excuse me if I’m not buying this sudden about-face after more than a decade of systemic end-user abuse and data breaches. Saying “Facebook is NOW concerned about user’s privacy and data” is like saying the NSA is suddenly going to stop their mass surveillance program and not just cover it up with subterfuge. I’ve got only one question: what’s the catch?
