Utah teacher forced boy to remove Ash Wednesday cross from forehead

A Utah elementary school teacher apologized to one of her Catholic students Wednesday after she forced him to wash off the Ash Wednesday cross on his forehead. William McLeod, a fourth grader at Valley View Elementary School, said his teacher forced him to wash off the symbol in spite of him attempting to explain why he wanted to keep it. The teacher is expected to undergo disciplinary action.

Freedom of religion does not mean freedom FROM religion. I am literally an atheist and I can still recognize this is barbaric.

I’m not sure why the teacher was put on administrative leave, I would think an apology to the student in front of the class as well as a refresher course in the freedom of religion is really all that is needed. However there may be more to the story then what is being stated in the articles.

Uhhh, yeah, you can’t do that. That whole “freedom of religion” clause sure is a stick in the mud for American, but, yeah, “fûck you, teacher!” 🖕😇🖕

Wow, zero outrage from the lefty media/Democrats. If a student was forced to remove her hijab, the left would be calling it a “lynching” and flipping out. But because it happened to a “white male” .... nothing

Why would there be any reason for this sort of action? To be clear I'm explicitly referring to the actions of the teacher.

Honestly, there are a lot of ignorant people out there. I highly doubt the teacher's motives were anti-religious. seems like a misunderstanding blown out of proportion.

I call BS. The teacher claims she didn't know what it was and then later she says it's inappropriate. Tolerance I've come to expect from public schools. Lucky the kid wasn't wearing an American flag t-shirt as well. They'd have expelled him.

for those that don't know the Cross of Ashes represents belonging to God as well as grief for your sins. traditionally you're supposed to wait for the Ash to naturally absorb into your skin. washing the cross off is a akin to renouncing them both... so in a way it's kind of like telling a Muslim he has to eat pork

If they wouldn't let a student wear a hijab, then they can't let them do this either.

All the atheists fall over themselves to appease their precious Muslims. Yet they continuously target Christianity with their hatred. Pathetic and ignoble.

I get she's ignorant, but did she have to chant, "the power of Christ compels you, the power of Christ compels you..." while he wiped it off?
