George Floyd Square in Minneapolis has special instructions for white people

The intersection where Minneapolis policeman Derek Chauvin killed George Floyd now has been converted into a mini memorial and named George Floyd Square. It has listed a number of dos and don’ts, including a special set of instructions for white visitors. One of them reads: ’Decanter yourself and come to listen, learn, mourn, and witness. Remember, you are here to support, not to be supported.’

It will never be effective to use racism to fight racism. Any rules, policies, guidelines or laws that differ for anyone based on color of skin is racist.

I will not visit, that would make me feel uninvited and unwelcome. Kind of like if it was done at a civil rights museum, or a civil war era statue. As a black person, how would you feel if entering a memorial, that there was special instructions for you? We have seen you feel, you tear down statues, rename schools, and deem it racist and offensive. How is this different? What if all the waahington monumemts and museums, war memorials...take your pick...instructed the ethnic or race of victims and heroes before admission..this should be illegal. It is not serving whatever purpose you think it is. In my opinion, you take away from the memorial with crap like this..

Are they soliciting donations? Do they accept counterfeit bills?

I'm fairly certain a) I will never visit the memorial of a money laundering drug addict. B) I will also never assume I'm better than anyone, and c) I will never obey demands of hypocrites. So. Non story?

I feel terrible for the businesses on this street. Minneapolis needs to have a backbone and stop enabling violent crime and gang activity to run their streets. It’s embarrassing.

Lots and lots of prejudice coming from the democrats BLM brigade. Of course, it's not that much different than their KKK groups decades ago, just with different skin color. Same racism, same masters...the left.

Well that won't just make people more racist or anything. Good thing most rational folks would never want to visit where fentanyl floyd overdosed.

Sees a man get killed on video for eight minutes and the conservative reaction is try to make themselves out to be the victims and the oppressed. While trying to argue that reverse racism is somehow worse than actual racism. Pretty hilarious with a lack of perspective haha. Are you guys not realizing that most people arent buying the aggrievement culture thing as much?

I like this, it's respectful attempt to preemptively mitigate misunderstandings. Like it or not, there is some cultural divide - even for those who fight alongside one another.... Also, white people getting all uppity and irritated by a cordial letter, when "No Coloreds Allowed" was posted all over the place 80 years ago, is not a good look. I respect the caretakers of George Floyd square to have the forethought to post this. Sometimes you gotta ask for some respect in order to get what you need - and in this case, that's healing.

Yeah ,you know what that is called? Racism... Anyone can be racist and these people giving people special instructions on how to act and what to do because of the color of their skin are racists. I care not for the mental gymnastics some one has to go through to come to a different conclusion, especially because race had nothing to do with the tragedy.

"What we really want to do is to be left alone. We don't want whites around. We don't need whites around. We're not asking - you know, we don't want to have them, you know, for our culture. We simply want our own country and our own society. That's in no way exploitive at all. We want our own society, our own nation." BLM Activists, George Floyd Memorial, 2021

“You are here supported, not to be supported” That’s not how unity that works, that message is downright divisive and bigoted.

Is this called Segregation? Why the need for specific instructions targeted towards a certain race? 🙄

I agree somewhat, but the issue lies more in individualism rather than race. Making it about race more than it should creates divisiveness. I'd concede that there are more caucasians that need to change their perspective than other race types, but that's due to disproportionate numbers in the states, not a genetic or socio-political perspective encoded into their heads. Implying otherwise is saying we're inherently different, which borders on counter-intuitive. The same ratio of bigotry and unacceptance towards African Americans is prominent in all race groups, because individualism is the law of the land. be it good or bad qualities, it all lies on how we were raised, and what we did with that after that point, no one else is to blame but you. We all need to change

Article would not be necessary if people just had common sense and decency. But let’s start reading all the white people comments that feel slighted by these common sense rules.
