Ancient woolly mammoth cells ’woken up’ by scientists

Japanese scientists have reportedly ’woken up’ cells from a woolly mammoth that roamed the earth 28,000 years ago. The team from Kindai University in Osaka inserted muscle cell nuclei from a well preserved mammoth carcass into mouse ova. They subsequently noted ’signs of biological activity’ taking place. The team says this will provide a platform to better understand extinct animal species.
