Merkel rejects criticism of German defense spending

Chancellor Angela Merkel rejected criticism of Germany’s defense spending. A budget plan foresees Germany’s defense spending rising to 1.37 per cent of national income in 2020, then declining to 1.25 per cent by 2023. Merkel’s government has pledged to increase spending to 1.5 per cent by 2024. Merkel said Germany will continue its efforts on defense ’but not at the expense of development aid’.

This is a win for Trump. Love him or hate him, he doesn’t pussyfoot around issues like most politicians. He wanted commitments to more spending and he got them.

We are committed to increase but we will never do. Instead we complain about the US ambassador and want him out of the country because he says the truth. I hate my German government.
