Virginia moving to eliminate all accelerated math courses before 11th grade

The Virginia Department of Education is reportedly looking to eliminate all accelerated math options prior to 11th grade. A spokesperson for the VDOE said that the courses would allow for at least some variation depending on students’ skill level. The changes, however, have drawn concern from parents in the state, which has seen in-fighting over controversial ideas surrounding equity and race.

This is a terrible plan. Instead of pushing for higher education, lets just dumb it down so everybody can get an A. Does not matter that they cannot compete in the job market, everybody can be be satisfied as unskilled labor and receive equity. Virginia, do better.

Government: Here teacher, teach this class, please do it in the best way possible. Oh, don't do that, do this other thing instead, but not that way. Don't think like that, think in this other way, but not like that. Make sure that you teach this, and make sure you gloss over that. Why are the schools so terrible?

Here's the recommendation from the "smart folk" at the Virginia Education Board: "Instead of lettin' them smarty pants kids that are math whizzes take them advanced classes, we need to hold them back 'cause they makin' all them other kids look dumb. We gotta make all them kids equal by holdin' back them smart ones 'cause we all about equity and inclusion..."
