Sheriff and staff resign to protest Oklahoma jail conditions

An Oklahoma sheriff and nearly all of her staff resigned this week, defying a district judge’s orders to reopen a county jail. The jail has been closed over safety issues following a carbon monoxide leak on February 28. Nowata County Sheriff Terry Sue Barnett said she could not ’in good conscience’ bring prisoners back to the jail despite threats of being held in contempt of court.

That's good to see people standing up for people's rights. Good on her.

This is going on in a lot more places than Oklahoma especially with a private prison system always offering to do the job for less then fuck the prisoners over more to make more cash.
