WhatsApp wants to label viral forwards to rein in fake news

In an attempt to counter fake news, WhatsApp, in its latest beta version, has added counts for how many times a message has been forwarded. Messages shared five or more times will carry a label of ’frequently forwarded’. This comes alongside a new campaign launched on Monday in India - ’Share Joy, Not Rumours’ - aimed at educating users to use the platform responsibly ahead of national elections.
