European Union moves toward ban on single-use plastics

The EU on Wednesday announced plans to ban single-use plastic items such as straws, forks and knives as well as cotton buds by 2021. EU countries can choose their own methods of reducing the use of other single-use plastics such as takeout containers and cups for beverages. They are also required to collect and recycle at least 90 per cent of beverage bottles by 2029.

this ban is a farce, smokes and mirrors. they ban straws theyll make plastic lids. its absurd to think this is helpful. it's like removing a strand of hay from a hay bail and saying alright I worked.

I am actually for the abolition of plastics however this ban doesn’t seem to be benevolent in nature. There is most definitely a motive behind this initiative

they make good law proposal like this. and then they ban memes and fast cars. EU parliament seriously needs more attention from voters.

I'm curious. They're already banning metal knives in the UK (or at least in London), if plastic utensils like straws, forks, and knives are also banned, what the hell are people supposed to use? Chopsticks? Are those still allowed or are they too pointy and dangerous for people to own? You could poke somebody's eyes out with one of those if you try.
