Trump says US census ’meaningless’ without citizenship question

President Trump on Monday said the nation’s 2020 census would be ’meaningless’ without adding a citizenship question to the questionnaire. Trump’s tweet came ahead of an expected Supreme Court ruling on whether Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross’ decision to add the citizenship question violated federal law.

Have people forgotten that the Census determines electoral votes? The democrats are trying to rig the election underneath everyone’s noses.

Japan has been very oppressive to me. I come here as a tourist but they refuse to let me get benefits and other special services that's for citizens only. They look at me funny if I try to speak their language. I'm totally pissed that not all places have English translations of menus and other signs despite English-speaking people being one of their biggest tourists. I can't vote in any of their elections. These Japanese people are racists! #NoVisa #NoWalls #NoCitizenships #NoSovereignCountriesAtAll

THe question is not being added it is being brought back! People were required to state their citizenship before. Inaccurate statistics are useless. I am not a sports fan but would you count the times at bat and how many home runs a team had in baseball if some of the people batting were not even on the same team. THere are only 3 kinds of people "living" in the US, Citizens, extended visitors, and criminal aliens. So yeah we should make sure the count is accurate. Plus it is 5 questions not just one: https://apps.npr.org/documents/document.html?id=4426784-Planned-Questions-2020-Acs#document/p11/a414610

Personally I don’t think the census, which is to keep track of the US population, should count non-US citizens.

Wrong. Census is solely supposed to be used to determine how many public funded services are needed, police, fire stations, libraries etc. Citizenship has no place on census

I love how talking with common sense becomes news now a days, is like we are going back to the Saint Inquisition and people are being burnt alive for pointing out the obvious....

The moron currently occupying the Office of the President of the United States doesn’t understand what a census is used for. A census is the procedure of systematically acquiring and recording information about the members of a given population. We need to know how many people are here and ethnic/racial group they represent. Whether they are citizens or not is irrelevant, plus there is nothing that prevents people from lying. If you’re illegal, the statement about penalties for lying on the form won’t change that possibility.

That damn Constitution, getting in Trump's way again, the Census is mandated in the Constitution regardless of what Trump thinks. There are rules on how questions are to be added to the census, Ross got caught lying about following the processes.

I have an honest question. Do other countries ask the citizenship question? If the answer is yes does that make thoes other countries racist in some way

As Trump doesn't read anything, including his own ghost-written books, what would he know about "meaning"?
