Chicago heads to the polls to elect city’s first black woman as mayor

Chicago voters go to the polls on Tuesday to choose between two African-American women running for mayor. Lori Lightfoot, 56, faces Toni Preckwinkle, 72, a long-time local politician, in a runoff to become the 56th mayor of the third-largest US city. The victor will become the first African-American woman to lead Chicago.

Electing people for skin color does nothing. Electing people because of their capability, experience and policy makes all the difference.

There's that white privilege again. There's that systemic racism again stopping minorities achieving. There's those white supremacists holding people back... Oh wait...

Why does it matter if a mayor is a dude or chick or what color they are? As long as the policies they have are good then who gives a fuck?

“where only 6 percent of mayors in the 200 U.S. largest cities are women of color” So entirely within line of expectations given population demographics.

Problems on both sides. The left sees it as a victory because of the identity politics, and the rights sees it as a loss because of Identity politics. She may or may not be good for the job, let her actions decide that, not her identity.
