North Carolina GOP chairman, others indicted on bribery and fraud charges

The DOJ said on Tuesday it had charged the chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party, Robert ’Robin’ Hayes, and a major political donor in a corruption scheme. According to an indictment, Hayes worked with business executive Greg Lindberg to bribe state insurance commissioner Mike Causey. Causey reported the effort to law enforcement officials and cooperated in the investigation.

The political process in the US is completely broken. It's not a party problem, it's a problem at the root of the process. Bad candidates are pushed through the selection process because the electorate is too apathetic or too stupid to realize that they have to be directly involved. It is easier to sit back and watch crappy TV and drink bad beer than to spend a few hours a month working at making your political representatives and the leaders of your local political parties be honest, open and free of corruption.
