Polish priest apologises for Harry Potter book burning

A Polish priest who led a public burning of the ’Harry Potter’ series and other books and items deemed as harmful has apologized and stressed it was not aimed against books or culture. Rev. Rafal Jarosiewicz published his apology on Facebook Tuesday, saying the burning of books and other items linked to magic and the occult was ’unfortunate’.

Unless he burned the very last copy of something that we will never get back, I don’t really care. I have used book pages as a starter for a fire before. But it was one of those mass softcover book things that they sell for like 3 bucks. And I don’t feel even remotely bad about it. My view is if I bought it I can do what I want with it.

It just shows how out of touch with the times the whole catholic church culture proves to be. In a time when you can download just about any book ever published, burning books is futile. These grandstanding gestures might have been effective a few centuries ago but have no place in 2019.

The last time an organisation was keen on book burnings it didn't end well. Especially for Poland.
