Algeria parliament names interim leader after protests

Algeria’s parliament appointed on Tuesday its upper house chairman Abdelkader Bensalah as interim president. This follows the resignation of Abdelaziz Bouteflika after weeks of mass protests against his rule. Bensalah promised to organize free elections within the 90 days in a televised speech to the nation on Tuesday.
