Texas debating bill classifying abortion as murder

Texas state lawmakers this week debated legislation that would criminalize having an abortion and make women who have them at risk of being sentenced to death. The bill, titled the ’Abolition of Abortion in Texas Act,’ was originally introduced two years ago but failed to gain traction. That changed this week when a hearing was held over the proposal.

I'm against abortion, but I think I'm also against this.

FFS, the bill would reclassify abortions as murders. The fact that it MAY make someone eligible for the death penalty is secondary and due to Texas being a death penalty state, rather than any direct aim of the bill. You don’t have to agree with it, but to paint it as legislation targeting death for women is such typical bullshit spin.

Death penalty for murderers? It's almost like that's already a thing when you're not a woman, so... Sure. Equality, bitches.

Thats showing people how to value life! The best ways must be by not letting woman choose what to do with their body and killing them for making their own decisions.

How about we start by not killing kids after birth?

The death penalty for murder is completely justified. logically that extends to abortion if we class it as murder. it only stops being murder when you stop regarding the baby as a person. The next logical step is abortion doctors and nurses.

This reminds me of the green new deal; so ridiculous you wonder if it's a plant by the other side to make their opponents look bad.

I am super in favor of this. It is long past due that we recognize the rights of the unborn and grant them personhood. to kill another human being, regardless of age is despicable and ANYONE who purposely ends another life should also forfeit theirs.

Yeah, No.

this is so extreme I wondering if they are doing it a some kind of bargaining chip. "o.k you won't support the original bill, how about we just limit abortions? middle ground?" that kind of thing? I don't want this to be a serious idea, to be honest.

There is a certain amount of hypocrisy in that if someone kills a pregnant woman, they are charged twice in Texas, for killing mother and unborn child. Not certain, but perhaps the purpose of this bill was to draw attention to that double standard?

Are we only ruled by completely mad people? It makes no difference anymore, if left-wing or right-wing; all politicians have gone nuts. These lawmakers in Texas belong in a mental asylum, not in a parliament.

So if a woman early in her pregnancy self-aborts due to some activity such as some form of physical activity is she going to be charged with manslaughter.

The headlines are spinning this innacurately, they're going to classify abortion as murder. This technically could make it punishable by death, as murder receive capital punishment. However, none of these lawmakers are saying abortion should specifically be punishable by death. Even if this were to pass, and abortion were to be equivicated with murder, given how rarely the death penalty is dished out normally, its doubtful it would given to women who have abortions, if ever. Very deceptive headlines here, blantent fearmongering.
