Canada conservatives win Alberta polls in blow to Trudeau

Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has lost one of his strongest remaining allies, as Alberta’s left-leaning provincial government has been swept out of office after just four years. Jason Kenney, the leader of the United Conservative Party (UCP), turfed Rachel Notley’s New Democratic Party (NDP) from power.

Everyone knows the federal election begins and ends in Ontario. What happens in Alberta doesn't matter and tells nothing of the future of Canadian federal politics. Alberta has always been a conservative province. It's why the province has always been so prosperous. Its leftist NDP government was an anomaly that arose from a divided right wing; no one is surprised that the NDP was roundly defeated by a united right.
