Gilets Jaunes (yellow vest) protests continue despite unrelated fire

French protesters in yellow vests known as Gilets Jaunes continue to rally against the government over high taxes and economic inequality. Protests started in November and have continued for 5 months. President Macron, who was scheduled to speak with the protesters, refuses to address the protester’s demands in the wake of the Notre Dame fire as he had previously suggested he would on Monday.

I admire the yellow vest protester's tenacity. I don't understand why news people would expect them to not show up just because there was a fire at the beginning of the week. It makes no sense to me.

I think they think (accurately) that the two are probably related deep down behind their Euro pc virus mask. A nine centuries sacred building does not SIMPLY burn accidently...

I'm honestly an admirer of their persistence.

Wait, why would notre dame burning make the protestors stop? A fire doesnt change their circumstances does it?

the fire got as much news coverage as the protests should have gotten. damn right they're continuing their protests. their determination is incredibly honorable.

More yellow vest protest despite climate change....More yellow vest protest despite devastating tornado in Texas....More yellow vest protest despite new season of Game of Thrones...More yellow vest protest despite bumper grape harvest predicted this year due to above average rainfall.

"Despite a scorched Notre Dam," wow. Notre Dam burning didn't resolve thier social or economic problems, nor put them on hold. Why should they stop protesting? Macron and his ilk have alowed France, a great nation, to fall into turmoil and unrest. Monuments have been defaced and a glass wall had to be built around the Eiffel Tower to protect it, and they called it progress. Immigrants and the poor line the streets in tents as raw himan feces litter the streets and sidewalks. And they called it progress. We're starting to see the same kind of nonsense in San Francisco and San Diego. Its like there is a connection 🤔

They are united in the horrible event but that still doesn't fix anything so why would they stop. Their original complaint is still what they are fighting for nothing else. Like someone else pointed out here they are in no way, firm, or shape related

lmao why? Why would a church burning stop the protests? I would really love a journalist to answer this question.

WHY would the fire stop them>? If anything it would surely do the opposite?
