Wing gets FAA approval in step toward drone delivery

Alphabet’s Wing Aviation unit on Tuesday got the okay to start delivering goods by drone in Virginia later this year. Wing can now begin a commercial service delivering goods from local businesses to homes, which includes flights beyond visual line of site and over people. Wing Aviation plans to start commercial package delivery in Blacksburg, Virginia, later this year.

Looking forward to dirt cheap delivery costs and reduced traffic congestion. Unfortunately don't expect much competition due to the FAA as a major obstacle. Startups don't have the lobbying influence Google does.

Cutting down delivery truck traffic. Less pollution. I wonder if drone operators will get paid more or less than UPS/Fed Ex drivers?
