Parents arrested in California after toddler sons found in cages

A couple in northern California has been arrested for child endangerment after authorities allegedly found their two toddler sons inside cages bolted to a bedroom wall. Ramon Zendejas and his girlfriend Mercadies Williams were arrested on illegal firearms possession and child endangerment charges. The boys, both under 2, were found inside two cribs stacked on top of each other.

The headline makes it sound like they were arrested for having them in "cages" (which are just cots, is it illegal to put a baby in a cot now?). Isn't it far more likely that all the illegal guns and the lab was what got them arrested?

Those cages don't look so bad. It's basically just 2 cots stacked on top of eachother, what's the problem with that? Would It have been better to find the kids free roaming around the house?

Cages? Um, that's just two cribs stacked on top of each other, with the opening on the side. There are playpens that work like that. How are these kids in danger?
