Court rules Michigan district maps are unconstitutional

A panel of federal judges on Thursday ordered Michigan’s Republican-controlled legislature to redraw nearly three dozen state and US congressional districts. The judged ruled that the existing lines illegally dilute the power of Democratic voters. The decision gives lawmakers until Aug. 1 to approve new maps. If legislators fail to do so, the judges said they would draw the maps themselves.

The sad part is this redrawing decision comes following a recent passing of a “no-gerrymandering” law that is designed to ensure the isolation of appointed individuals to draw the districts. From what I understand of it the districts will not be drawn by state legislators (people who can be voted out), but by a commute selected by (I think) the state attorneys general. This in essence is going to ensure power remains in the hand of he AG’s backers (Democrats). Isolating the decision makers from the voters like this will ensure that our districts will all be gerrymandered to high hell and the Democrats win here for a long time. In Essence this is horseshit, and this ruling is also attempting to nail the coffin shut before the 2020 elections.
