Federal judge orders militia leader held in jail

The leader of a paramilitary group that has detained undocumented migrants crossing the US-Mexico border pleaded not guilty to federal weapons charges on Monday. Larry Hopkins, 69, commander of the United Constitutional Patriots, was denied bail. Assistant US Attorney George Kraehe testified that Hopkins had 11 prior felony convictions also.

I find it interesting that so many of these articles discuss the guys militia and detaining illegals, but the whole reason he is in court has nothing to do with either of those things. What I also find odd is that he is considered a risk to the community even though from what I can tell, he doesn’t have a history of doing anything to people. Most seems to be failure to show up to court and using an alias. But maybe there is more to the felony charges that I’m not aware of.

I wonder if he was in possession of firearms or were members of his group and he is being targeted as an accomplice for detaining illegal aliens.
