Gillibrand proposes giving ’Democracy Dollars’ to voters to donate to candidates

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand says she wants to publicly fund elections by giving voters the option of receiving a stipend they would then donate to candidates of their choice. In an online post, Gillibrand outlined the plan, which would allow eligible voters to receive up to $600 in ’Democracy Dollars’ they would then contribute to candidates for Congress or the presidency.

This is exactly how they rigged elections in the ancient Roman Republic. A political crime with a punishment of exile.

I could agree to this under one condition the can't spend any of their own money nor can they take money from anywhere else. What the people give you is all you can use for your campaign. That would be fucking epic. Imagine millionaires forced to beg the people for a few hundred dollars for their campaign. The first person to win would be the first to abolish it. We should do this for all elections. People can give labor freely but corporations aren't allowed in any way. No party donations just person to person. The poor people and the rich people have the same limit. Any over and you will be fined 10 times the difference. If politics is going to be a circus at least Americans should get a show out of it.😂🤣😇

Wow... So you'll take my money, forcibly, and give it to people who may not share my political views to support candidates I would never support. How that sounds like a decent, moral thing to you, I have no idea.

Communists always start off by giving you free things using your money to do it. Then the body count starts going up. For the greater good of course. Then the starvation begins. Then those bodies become food. Everywhere it has been tried it always ends the same. a communist's, I mean Democrats, making Kuru great again.

Here’s my idea. People, businesses, special interests, etc. can donate any amount, at any time, for as many times as they want, into a general pool. Then when someone runs for an office, say president, they are allotted a predetermined amount of money from that pool to use. They can’t use any more than what they have been given. They can’t use their own money and and staff they have are volunteers or are paid from what the candidate is given. This levels the playing field and would allow those who would not be able to run because they don’t have or cannot raise the money needed to run successfully.

So what she is saying is she wants people not to pay taxes. You go girl, you go! (very slow clap)

So my newest idea is to take money away from people that are not voting for me and give it to people that are. They can then give that money to me, and I will call it a grass root movement!

Public funding for elections? What could possibly go wrong....

I like the idea as it will help incentivize politicians to fundraise from the populus rather than interest groups. Spending does seem to be an issue. Perhaps it'd be a good idea to put a cap on contribution sums or have some diminishing returns on subsequent contributions. The latter may even encourage political outsiders to run.

I see what she's trying to do but unfortunately this will require more tax dollars to be spent. If she can provide a plan that show how this reduces government spending. Also, the bill itself would have to be approved by law makers who receive the corporate funding it is trying to shut down.

Donating involves sacrifice. Sacrifice is what makes donating meaningful. This is nothing more than taking other people’s money and telling them to give it to a candidate who will give them more money. Also, eligible voters? Who is that? I assume straight white employed males not on welfare need not apply?

This is madness. The solution to money in politics is not more money. We don't need to democratize robbery. Reduce the power of DC to its constitutional boundaries and politicians will no longer carry the whip hand in society. Bernie and company will simply be a thing to laugh at... unless your state government adopts his policies!

it's a good idea to get corporate money out of politics. like this the citizens get a better outcome from politicians. I think 600 is way to much I would say 50-100 is more reasonable.
