Cyclone Fani lashes India’s east coast; 1.2 million people evacuated

Cyclone Fani slammed into India’s eastern coast Friday, killing at least three people as winds of up to 150 mph lashed beaches and uprooted trees. The storm struck near the city of Puri, in Odisha state. About 1.2 million people have been evacuated from low-lying areas and moved to about 4,000 shelters. Fani is the strongest tropical cyclone to hit India in nearly two decades.
