US unemployment rate at a 49-year low

US job growth surged in April and the unemployment rate dropped to a more than 49-year low of 3.6 per cent. Nonfarm payrolls increased by 263,000 jobs last month, amid gains in hiring nearly across all sectors. The economy created 16,000 more jobs in February and March than previously reported.

Whatever Trump is doing. It is working. Maybe the Democrats can be pushed out of any major office at this rate.

Yet the vast majority of Americans are poverty to low income and would be destroyed by a medical emergency or just an unexpected $500 to cover... It's great that so many people are working. But all these people should be making a FAIR wage, which they do not. Unemployment almost non-existant while wage gap at highest ever and majority of citizens extremely poor. Really puts things into perspective.

Will no one comment that unemployment numbers do not consider college students and those who do not report their unemployment? I’m happy the number went down, but a bubble of joblessness brews underneath. We need to put aside the politics and be careful.

Most of them are low paying jobs with no security... Most people can't afford a 500$ emergency... Most people make 30,000$ a year or less... You are making it out to be it's like the 1950s where there was a booming economy and a massive middle class. It's not. It's stagnant at best and for the vast majority of people nothing has changed under Trump the same way it didn't change under Obama.

Absolutely amazing! I'm Canadian, I, and many others, are quite jealous of this incredible achievement! We're looking fwd to our fed election in October so that we can again have a good gov, and one that loves us, the Canadian people, like Trump loves Americans. U should all be very proud. Way to go Trump and administration!

Once again, cherry picking evidence to support your world view is not only disingenuous but also very harmful to rational discourse. FACT: the unemployment rate has decreased slower under Trump then under Obama, look up the stats here (https://www.bls.gov/charts/employment-situation/civilian-unemployment-rate.htm#). Now that doesn't mean that Obama is better then Trump, in fact I would make the argument that as you approach 0% unemployment that the unemployment rate would decrease slower because as more positions are being filled it will take more time for people the remaining unemployed folks to find their way into the unfilled positions. My point is, that this is really not that remarkable, this doesn't even address the kinds of jobs that were created, for example, the number of factory jobs basically stayed the same contrary to what Trump promised but no one is talking about that......anyways don't always believe the hype.
