Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand on Tuesday that, if elected as president, she would only nominate judges who vow to uphold Roe v. Wade. Gillibrand hammered President Trump for tapping what she described as ’anti-choice extremists,’ like Supreme Court Justices Brett Kavanaugh.

Layman here, but aren't judges supposed to uphold set precedents regardless of political leanings? Isn't she just saying she won't go for judges who uphold their own set of standards regardless of set precedents? I mean if that were the case they could disregard the lemon test and allow intelligent design instead of evolution.

Roe v. Wade is an incredibly important piece of precident, but not for abortion access. That is a noteable side effect. The real power of Roe is privacy within yourself. It is the capstone case in a long line which ensured each individual maintained a high level of privacy not only in their personal effects, but within their own bodies. That is why Roe will never be overturned, and that is why it should never be overturned.
