Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes: It’s time to break up Facebook

Chris Hughes see’s Zuckerburg’s power over free speech as unprecedented and un-American. He has the ability to monitor and censor speech in a way that nobody else can, enjoying 4 billion users to monitor between Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. What ’breaking up Facebook’ means is still unclear, but it will likely reduce the power that Zuckerburg currently has on speech.

Yeah, I'd say that's reasonable enough.

Unpopular opinion here, but I feel that breaking up these companies just kicks this censorship can down the road. There needs to be clear rules for these companies to abide by in terms of what they should and should not allow on their platforms. Right now, the community guidelines that Facebook wrote for itself are as vauge as possible and enforced arbitrarily. In a recent case before the Supreme Court of the United States, it was ruled that the government cannot restrict your access to social media as it is a civil right. In light of this, there should be clear requirements that must be met before someone is banned from social media.

Here’s an idea stop letting Facebook/Zuckfuckhead monopolize the social media world. Let Gab and Minds and others go freely and fine Facebook and others when they try to intercede. Example like getting their funding and banking abilities revoked by activists.

And Facebook is meddling with the current European and the 2020 US presidential elections.

If a company asks to be broken up by the government, you know something is fishy!

The treatment of monopolies across the board has been out of wack for decades now. It is no longer an excuse that monopolies bring prices down, they have way too much political/lobbying power as well as outsized economic power. If you are for capitalism you should be for anti-trust laws being enforced again, monopolies are anti-competitive and hence nullify the major argument for the success of capitalism.

I'd be A okay with Facebook just dying. Humanity would be better off. We need a new social media outlet whose doctrine states that you will not be discriminated against for political beliefs.

I believe our anti-trust laws need to be updated the the current, global superstar economy. Facebook should never have gotten so large.

Stop using Socialist Media platforms and their communist ideologue's products. It is just spyware that fingerprints your devices and profiles you. Use the free speech platforms of the internet.

Starting to look like he is a straight up criminal. We need a thorough investigation of Facebook since its creation, including building 8.

I'm not sure breaking it up is right, but I would enjoy seeing them twist in the wind for their immoral and unAmerican behavior.

Good! I got off social media 4 years back, and am so happy I did. They should just get rid of it all, it poisons our society.

Same should be said for these news organizations owning local tv news, national tv news, and online news. They share the blame in no trusting news anymore.

Thank you Chris Hughs! As you are someone connected to the company, you're doing a selfless act!
