75 new measles cases last week in the U.S. - Most since 1994

Although the measles was declared eradicated in 2000, cases continue. The US has its highest number of reported cases since 1994, with a total of 829 in 23 states. This week’s jump of 75 cases is an increase from the previous 2 weeks which brought 60 new cases each. New York City has the highest number of cases, likely due to a larger population that does not vaccinate children living there.

While I think people should get vaccinated I’m not comfortable with mandatory vaccination. Forcing people to have something injected into their bodies against their will seems quite tyrannical. Hopefully the hard data of the recent spike in diseases versus the lowering rates of vaccination will be enough to convince people that they should do it.
