Lori Lightfoot sworn in as Chicago mayor, pledges change

Chicago swore in its first black female and first openly gay mayor Monday. Lori Lightfoot defeated Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle in a landslide runoff election April 2, claiming 73 per cent of the vote and winning all 50 wards. ’We are going to transform our city,’ Lightfoot said, ’No one person, no one leader—even if it’s a woman—can change the city alone. We must do it together’.

Why is her gender or sexuality necessary to know in anyway? How does that relate to her qualifications? I am so tired of identity politics.

Good for her, hope she does a good job and actually improves her city. That being said, I dont give a f*** that she is black or gay. I'm tired of these articles about "the first" this or that...its old and on stuff that doesnt matter.

Watch that crime rate skyrocket. But it's okay because the rich neighborhood where she lives will still be secured.
