Mexico wants US backing for Central America development plan

Mexican President Lopez Obrador said on Monday he had ordered his foreign minister to seek a pact with the US, Canada and other nations in support of a development plan for Central America to control immigration. Lopez Obrador said he wants the US to ditch the Merida Initiative, in favor of more development assistance, which he believes will tackle the root causes of immigration.
