Botswana lifts ban on elephant hunting

Botswana has lifted a ban on elephant hunting, citing an increasing population and farmers’ livelihoods being affected. Lawmakers have been lobbying to overturn the 2014 ban. Botswana has the largest elephant population in Africa, with more than 135,000 roaming freely. Lifting the ban could be popular with rural voters ahead of an election due in October.

I'm conflicted. As much as I dislike the idea of hunting elephants, it is nice to see such a rise in their population.

conservation is important to the ecosystem. Hope this means the population is high enough to permit limited hunting.
