US unveils $16 billion aid for farmers hurt by China trade war

The Trump administration unveiled a new $16 billion aid package to help farmers caught in the crossfire of the trade war with China. ’We’re going to help out our farmers and we’re giving them that level playing field that is so important’, President Trump said on Thursday. The bulk of the funds will go to direct payments to farmers, while a small portion will be used in aid programs.

Do conservatives condemn this action? I see a lot of outrage over politicians buying votes, curious to see how this is categorised.

At first I thought he was going to rip off Willie and have a concert. Than I read the article and saw he was just going to rip off the taxpayers and hand out another welfare check to the farmers, with Corporate Farms getting the majority of the money.

You have to shake your head at the ignorance of some people, who actually believe the family farm is still the major producer of agricultural business. The vast majority of agriculture is corporate even the family farm is a business. The right hates socialism except when they don't.

That $16B is a drop in the bucket compared to how bad China has been screwing over the US for years. I guess it’s considered crony capitalism to issue welfare to people who work hard everyday.

No, sorry I’m not for bailouts. Not for bankers, not for automotive manufacturers, not for insurers, and not for farmers. I don’t think the government needs to be involved in subsidies for any company.
