Median CEO pay package up 7 per cent last year, far above workers

Pay for CEOs at S&P 500 companies rose to a median of $12 million last year, including salary, stock and other compensation, according to data by Equilar. Pay for typical workers at these companies rose 3 per cent last year, less than half the growth for the top bosses. The survey showed that it would take 158 years for the typical worker at most big companies to make what their CEO did in 2018.

CEO's get a raise as production increases, and worker wages remain stagnant. Workers remain to be exploited by not being paid their fair share.

CEOs get paid a lot for their role in creating consumer surplus. Their wage is a reflection of the value provided to society. The lowering of prices, increasing of quality and choices, all of which happens to benefit workers a hell of a lot more than any redistribution scheme. This is obvious in any side-by-side comparison of capitalism and not-capitalism. The average Cuban subsists on around $30 a month in that worker's paradise. And yet I still hear morons sing the praises of Cuba's literacy rate and government-provided poverty statistics. I still see the visage of Che Guevara on T-shirts as though he was some kind of hero to the working class. $30 a month. You're not fooling anybody with 2 brain cells to rub together. A market economy is not a zero-sum game. One person's fortune is not a detriment to others in society. Because the market system is premised on voluntary exchanges of value, the only way to get rich, without fraud or theft, is to first enrich others. Why do you think so many people risk their lives to migrate to one of those runaway-capitalist hellholes? I guess they just want to be exploited.

'How come I'm not paid the same as the CEO?!' I agree that wages should go up as costs of living go up. But a business doesn't have to raise pay as business improves.

Firms investing at slowest pace since end of Obama presidency. But..but...corporate tax giveaways are invested back into businesses and create good paying jobs. They wouldn't use it for stock buybacks instead, artificially boosting their own worth to justify giving themselves massive pay increases while creating a bubble...would they?

Good news! CEO pay increases are directly correlated to improved company performance. Very good indeed. Surely this is due to reduced regulations and means more money for all! This is reflected in the first meaningful wage increases for the middle class since the 70's! The latest report out of the bureau of labor statistics reported the average American worker is only working 30 hours a week and taking home an average of over $27 per hour. We are working less hours for more pay! https://www.bls.gov/opub/ted/mobile/earnings-and-wages.htm

What kind of dumbfuck uses the median as any type of serious data? 1,1,2,8,8 Is the median (2) actually giving us data or just misleading us? The median is 2, but the average is 4. The median is just the mid number in a row of numbers.
