Bishop faces backlash after tweet about Pride Month

The Bishop of Rhode Island is under fire after sharing a tweet telling his congregation not to support or attend LGBTQ Pride Month events. Providence Bishop Tobin took to Twitter to share his thoughts in a tweet that has since been inundated with several thousand incinerating comments. Tobin issued an apology, adding that he and the Church have ’respect and love for members of the gay community’.

According to Abc News the president of the LGBTQ group Rhode Island Pride states: "Jesus never said a word about homosexuality, about Pride, or the Queer community," the group's president, Joe Lazzerini, said in a statement. "Rhode Island Pride respectfully calls on Bishop Tobin to do some self-reflection as the majority of Catholic Rhode Islanders in this state reject the idea that to be Catholic is to be complicit to intolerance, bigotry, and fear. "Bishop Tobin doesn't represent the majority of Rhode Island Catholics who support the LGBTQIA+ community in Rhode Island," he wrote. If majority of the Catholics are actually ok with LGBTQ community and their pride parades then why is Tobin the only one that is requesting people not to attend? https://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/bishop-faces-backlash-tweet-pride-month-63435407
