Chef and civil rights activist Leah Chase dies at 96

Legendary chef Leah Chase who fed generations of New Orleanians and tourists alike at Dooky Chase’s restaurant died Saturday. She was 96. Chase, not only created the first white-tablecloth restaurant for black patrons, but she used her restaurant as a space for the civil rights movement to strategize and to allow people of different races to mix side by side.
