Canadian inquiry calls deaths of indigenous women ’genocide’

A government inquiry has concluded that the deaths in Canada of more than a thousand aboriginal women and girls in recent decades was a national genocide. The report, which resulted from an inquiry launched by PM Trudeau’s government in 2016, blamed the violence on long-standing discrimination against indigenous people and Canada’s failure to protect them.

Majority of the murders are Indiginous people killing each other, then getting off lightly in court because "historical oppression and colonialism, white men bad" etc. No sympathy from me, a disgusting white Male.

The death of 1200 women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA people over 30 years within a Muslim community would be considered rookie numbers.

"The report cited abuses such as forcing indigenous children to attend government run residential schools" Huh, forcing someone to get an education is abuse?

I live in Canada and have no sympathies for identity politics whatsoever, but our government really is guilty of a genocidal campaign against indigenous people. The crimes continued until as recently as 1996, and so the issue really is of immediate relevance, in that indigenous people alive today suffered and continue to suffer as a direct result of federal policy. The situation up here is very different than that in the US, where those who were never slaves are demanding reparations from people who never owned slaves. Real people alive today are guilty of real crimes affecting living victims, and they must be held to account. It's not about demonizing all white people this time (as it usually is), it's about righting really-existing wrongs.
