California governor denies parole to Charles Manson follower

California Governor Gavin Newsom on Monday reversed a parole board recommendation that the youngest of Charles Manson’s murderous ’family’ of followers be released early from prison. Newsom said that he was concerned that Leslie Van Houten has the potential for future violence. Van Houten is serving a life in prison for her role in the cult’s 1969 killing spree.

Instead of ‘Manson follower’ it should be ‘convicted murderer’ or are we playing the women don’t have agency game?

This is dumb, why are there parole boards then?

The only thing is that these "followers" were brainwashed and received life in prison for those murders. I am not saying I am against that ruling. In the court system today, murders get a slap on the wrist and let go after a few year.

I don't know why they bother. These decisions are made for political reasons and that case is too culturally iconic for any of them to ever be let go.
