Taiwan requests over US$2b in weapons from US

The island of Taiwan has submitted orders for updated military equipment from the US. They have ordered a formidable amount of M1A2 Abrams, F-16 fighters, anti-air and anti-armor missiles and other weapons in order to defend against a perceived threat from China. The US has not had official diplomatic relations with Taiwan since 1979, when Bejing became China’s representative in the UN.

This is possibly the most ignorant comment section that I have seen on this entire app, and that is saying a lot. Show of hands...how many of you lived in China for 3 years and have any understanding of their culture or politics? Communists bad. U.S. good. That's about the depth of the understanding here...and it's laughable to even consider China communist government at this point. China and U.S. both have same system; an oligarchy. Politicians are paid off by big business to legislate in favor of corporations. The difference is that China doesn't have the faux veneer of Democracy but U.S. does.
