Man jailed for sharing video of Christchurch mass shooting

A businessman in Christchurch who shared a video of worshipers being slaughtered at a New Zealand mosque was sentenced on Tuesday to 21 months in prison. Philip Arps pleaded guilty to two counts of distributing the video. The judge said that when questioned about the video, Arps described it as ’awesome’ and had shown no empathy toward the victims. Arps compared himself to a Nazi leader.

I can understand why he would get a prison sentence, but I don't understand the idea that his acts were racist. Muslims are a religious group, not a race. We shouldn't conflate this.
