Phoenix mayor sorry after police pull gun on family over stolen doll

A $10 million legal claim was filed against the city of Phoenix that says police officers committed civil rights violations by pointing guns and profanely yelling commands at a man and his pregnant wife. Dravon Ames and Iesha Harper claim an officer injured their 1-year-old daughter by pulling on one of her arms after the incident. Mayor Kate Gallego said the incident made her feel ’sick’.

So if they win $10 million, will they still be able to collect welfare?

The family's story is B.S. No american cop is going to act the way they described. The parents refused to comply with their commands from the beginning, and I doubt the officers pulled guns for a simple case of shoplifting. Put simply, Clown World folks.

I hate being so skeptical of these claims... bad shit happens but so do bullshit claims...

Yep the family was resisting police and your usual shouting and not following anything the police are asking to them to do and random bystanders getting in the way of police from doing their jobs... fantastic

The problem with body cams is no one does a thing when an officer turns off or obscures their camera. In a case where a ex officer was found guilty of 2nd degree manslaughter and 3rd degree murder, nothing was done to any of the officers that turned their cameras off. Phoenix police will do this same thing when they have cameras. They will simply turn them off. I’ve even seen this in shooting what would be considered justified.

they are lucky that the cops didn't shoot one of them... i can't help but wonder what would of happen if there were no civilian witnesses... pretty sure it would of been even worse

I'm big enough to admit when I'm wrong, that video looks brutal.

Meijin I'd have to disagree. Government is the main problem. Guards I'm all for, but authoritarianism is a sin.

The PPD is a disaster. There is obviously a wrong culture deep inside it. Police officer unions are obviously keeping psychopaths in uniform when they should be fired or incarcerated. Psychological testing has to be used to determine suitability for employment.

Watched a video a year or so ago, with a Cop in Japan who came across a drunk guy with a broken bottle. The cop never raised his voice never threatened the drunk but just stood there and talked to the guy. The cop was in no hurry, was not afraid for his life, never pulled a weapon, the guy eventually dropped the bottle and the two walked off, no handcuffs, no slamming to the ground......have no data to support my belief, but I think there is strong evidence to support my claim that the use of aggression by US cops is the cause of most encounters going south.

I hope that cop is fired along with his "brother" officer who did not step in to defuse the incident.

There is no excuse for the behavior of those "law officers". Everybody is not a criminal. Making threats to shoot a pregnant woman carrying a baby is a statement on police mentality across the nation. It is a sad moment that you could face death for a child's stealing a $1 doll. The fact that the "criminals were black has not gone unnoticed. This is not America. This is representative of a banana republic controlled by fascists.
