Iran claims to have shot down US spy drone

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards claim to have shot down a US ’spy’ drone in the southern province of Hormozgan. State news agency carried the same report, identifying the drone as an RQ-4 Global Hawk. However, this is disputed by the US suggesting a US Navy MQ-4C Triton was shot down in international waters.

Something about this incident has me leaning towards the US as the ones telling the truth. The downed drone was an RQ-4, a standard observation drone. It wouldn't make any sense for the US to fly such an asset into Iranian airspace when they have stealth drones that are able to enter and fly about hostile air zones with limited visibility. Makes me lean towards Iran shooting down a drone in the gulf, as the US claims, that was likely flying close to Iranian airspace to track Iranian mine laying efforts. If this is true then the US is well within their rights to strike back at Iranian AA assets along the coast.
